Eraser stamps, Filofax

Making my own stamps (So difficult!)

I’m visiting Japan next month and I made a list of what I want to do in Japan, what I want to eat in Japan, who I want to see in Japan…etc…etc.  I haven’t been back in Japan for nearly 2 and a half years, so it’s really exciting!

By the way, I’ve put up a photo of my stamps in my last post, and now I’ve started making my own “keshigomu hanko” (eraser stamps).  Making my own stamps seemed really exciting, and the materials are cheap so I thought “Why not give it a try?”

If you are not so familiar with the eraser stamps you can copy & paste

消しゴムはんこ

in Google Image and you can see all kinds of stamps!

These are what I use:

Steps:
1) Draw whatever you like on a piece of paper (keep it simple at the beginning!)

2) Trace it

3) Transfer the image onto the eraser

4) Curve it

I thought it would be quite easy, and I was so ecxited thinking what kind of stamps I want to make for my Filofax.

BUT!!!!

It was actually sooooo difficult!!!  How can other people make such tiny & detailed stamps!?

It looks so easy in the videos, you know!

It’s obvious that I need  A LOT of practice, so I decided to go for some very simple designs first like a strawberry and a cherry 🙂

I really hope I can show you something a lot better than this soon..!

    1. Thank you, DEM! I’ve been practicing and I think I’m getting slightly better 🙂 I’m sure there is a trick to it, and once I get that it’ll be very easy. (I hope!)

  1. That looks really hard! The strawberry you did looks really good, the person in the video makes it looks really easy though!

    1. Thank you Charlotte! Yes, it looks really easy in the videos on YouTube, and I’ve seen so many people showing their really cute and complex stamps on the internet, so I thought I could do the same easily!

    1. Thank you, Anita! I really enjoyed making the Trip to Japan sheet. Hopefully I’ll get better making stamps soon so I can make small schedule stamps for my filofax 🙂

  2. Hi i am doing a project on Japan with my 7 year olds and would love ideas on things I could do with them. I am really struggling with any resources from Japan? Would you be able to help??

  3. You’re quite good at that stamp-making, they’re really cute and show just enough detail.

I see you’re another Pentel Multi-8 pen user. I’ve been wanting to try that out. Would you mind doing a “mini” review of it? (:

    1. Thank you, Doris! I really want to make more stamps, but it was sooo painful for my eyes that I suffered from eyeache and a headache for several days..! Maybe I should practice more with bigger stamps with less detail first. I love my Multi-8 very much, and yes, I will do a “mini” review hopefully this weekend 😉
