Filofax

Faulty Finsbury from Staples :(

So I ordered a Pocket Finsbury form Staples last month. It was £21.98 + P&P which I thought was a bargain considering the same Filofax was being sold for £50 on Filofax official website.

This is the one I bought:
http://www.staples.co.uk/pocket-finsbury-organiser-raspberry/cbs/405366.html?price=incvat&cm_mmc=SEM_PLA-_-google-_-serp-pla&mcode=SEM_PLA-google-serp-pla&gclid=CICSzaHRvcsCFQ0SGwodvGEIyA&gclsrc=aw.ds

I was really looking forward to receiving my new Raspberry Finsbury and it arrived a few days later. I excitedly opened the parcel and… saw the brown cardboard box inside instead of the standard Filofax box in which my other Finsburies came. Has anyone got a Filofax in a cardboard box like this as well??

These are the standard Filofax boxes I’m taking about.

Anyway, I opened the box and checked the Filofax inside, and …. found some scratches on its penloop which made me so disappointed 😦 I nearly kept it as I really wanted to start using it, but… decided to return it for a replacement. After waiting for another several days I finally received a replacement. I opened the cardboard box carefully, and this time it looked ok so I waited until the weekend to set it all up with my new dividers and so on. The weekend came and I set it all up and… noticed that there was a gap in the rings!!! 😦 I was soooo disappointed but this time I didn’t contact Staples because 1) they would probably send me another faulty Filofax anyway 2) I didn’t want them to think that I was a super fussy freak!! My husband also said to me that it’s not sucha big deal because I got it for a low price, but I bought my other Finsburies from Ryman for even cheaper prices in the past and they were in pristine condition! I don’t think I’ll ever buy a Filofax from Staples again 😦

So this is the gap I’m talking about.

DSC01243

Inserts can’t fall out of the rings so it’s still usable unless the gap becomes any bigger in the future!!

Well, at least my new Honeycomb dividers are looking good in it!!

The colour has already come off the penloop, though..Hmmmmm….

Oh, by the way, my Japanese blogger friend told me that Iceland has started selling frozen sushi. I normally buy sushi from Waitrose because their sushi is a lot better than the ones from other supermarkets like Tesco, Morrisons, M&S, etc. I’d never seen frozen sushi, so when I saw it at Iceland I kinda got freaked out lol! But anyway I bought it and ate it the next day for lunch. I kept it in the fridge so it was perfectly defrosted and to my very surprise it tasted as nice as the Waitrose sushi! It’s definitely better than the ones from Tesco or M&S!!! And it’s only £3!!! It costs around £5-6 at Waitrose so from now on I’ll go to Iceland for sushi!! I hope they’ll have more range in the future as this is the only kind they’ve got right now.

3x salmon nigiri, 2 shrimp nigiri and 2 makizushi & 3 California rolls

A little pouch of soy sauce was included but it tastes a bit different from the Kikkoman soy sauce which is my favourite, but it didn’t matter because I just used the Kikkoman sauce I’ve got at home. Anyway, If you’ve never tried Iceland’s sushi I do recommend it!

Wrote a Guest Post About My Dividers For Ryman!

I was given an opportunity to write a guest post for Ryman’s website which is super exciting for me!!  If you don’t live in the UK and don’t know about Ryman, it’s a British stationery retail company 🙂  They sometimes have big discounts on Filofaxes, so I actually bought my very first Filofax (Pocket Aqua Finsbury!) from Ryman and I also bought my Pocket Finsbury (Antique Rose) which I’m currently using from Ryman as well.  In fact, I recently bought a Pocket Cuban for my husband which was on discount at Ryman which means my husband is finally a Filofax user as well!!  If you click here you can see the post!

And a real quick update about the monthly refills for 2014!  They are ready for the Pocket and Personal size, however my brand new Brother laser printer’s got a problem now and its drum has been sent back to Brother for some inspection…! 😦  As soon as the problem is sorted I can put up the refills in my shop for sale, but at the moment I can’t tell you when exactly I can start selling them.  Also, I was originally going to create monthly refills with more than one design, however I haven’t had enough time for designing recently and I don’t think I can design any other designs at the moment.

Filofax, Page-markers

❤❤Cute Kokeshi Doll Pagemarkers ❤❤

It was my birthday on Wednesday, and on that day I took the train in the morning to do a Japanese calligraphy (shodo) workshop in Northern Liverpool!  This lovely artist I know teaches pottery and he asked me to do a workshop for his pottery students.  I was totally nervous at the beginning, but his students were really lovely so I could enjoy the workshop myself in the end.  I hope they enjoyed it, too!!

*I’m hiding their faces as I forgot to ask them if it was alright to put the photos up on my blog!

workshop
Then in the evening my mother-in-law brought some presents and her homemade birthday cake for me!  It was such a gorgeous cake with chocolate cream inside.

P1120762
So now my birthday is over, and I’ve been working on some new items like page-markers and calendar stickers.  I’d like to show you some sample page-markers I’ve made.

pagemarkers1
I made a window in the middle for the blue one.  If there is a window like this it becomes uneven when I laminate it, so it’s not my favourite type of page-marker to make (lol!), but I LOVE the window for some reason so I really wanted to make a sample with a window.

pagemarkers2
This is how it looks when it’s set in my Pocket sized Filofax (Finsbury).  (I’m thinking of making them in three sizes: Pocket, Personal and A5.)

pagemarkers10
The ribbon pops out from the top.

pagemarkers3
This page-marker is approx. 45mm wide.

pagemarkers4

pagemarkers11
And the pink one is more simple, but it’s longer.

pagemarkers5
So you can turn the page from either the top or the bottom.

pagemarkers7

pagemarkers6
The width is also 45mm, but it looks quite wide in my Pocket Finsbury, doesn’t it??

pagemarkers8
I’m thinking of making a set of multiple page-markers instead of just selling one, so I’d like to ask you what kind of set you would like to have!  How many page-markers would you want in one set?  Any preferable size?  Colours?

*You can see more details of the one on the right on THIS PAGE.

pagemarkers9
I would really appreciate your opinions!!  And thank you for reading!

❤Making Kokeshi Stickers with Silhouette Cameo❤

Ta-daaa!  This is my brand new Silhouette Cameo!!  I finally FINALLY bought it!!

P1120699

This is a cutting machine I’ve been wanting for a long time.  This little machine can cut not only paper but also fabric or film types of thing to any shapes you like!

I’m still a super beginner, but here is something I’ve made with the Cameo.  The software called Silhouette Studio comes with the Silhouette Cameo, and you trace images using the software to decide where you want to cut.

P1120711 copy
Yay!!

P1120723 copy
But what I really REALLY wanted to try with the Cameo was to make STICKERS!!  You can change the length of the blade before cutting, and if you set it right you can cut stickers without cutting the backing sheet.  Which means you can make a little nice sheet of stickers which has been my dream!

But, oh dear!   I’m horrible at reading manuals (and I had to find the proper manual online as the one included in the box wasn’t good enough!), so I struggled A LOT to make them at the beginning, and to be honest I almost gave up!  But my passion for stickers drove me to the goal lol!!

And here it is!!

P1120706 copy
I’ve been cutting all my stickers out of a sheet one by one using scissors and knives, but using the Cameo I can make a sheet of stickers which is a lot more convenient to carry around with my Filofax 🙂  I punched ring holes, so I can set it in my Filofax like this.

P1120705 copy

P1120708 copy
I actually tried to print on clear adhesive film as well for the first time.  Here is the sample I made.

P1120693 copy
Oh, my God!  I love it!!!
P1120697 copy
This is how it looks like on my page.

P1120698 copy
I really love this clear film, however it seems that my printer doesn’t really like it 😦  So it’s actually quite a hassle to make stickers with it.  Oh.. but I really like these clear stickers so… I will have to figure out how to print them out without any trouble…!

All these stickers are not available in my shop yet, but I’m planning on putting them up very soon (not sure about the clear ones, though!) once I design all the packaging and so on.

Thank you for reading!

Filofax, Shrink Plastic Charms

❤❤Cute Kokeshi Doll Charm for my Filofax❤❤

It’s already the 7th, but Happy New Year!  I couldn’t update my blog as I’ve been really busy.

I visited Lancaster on Christmas Eve, and I bought this handbag there telling myself that it was my Christmas present…!  When I walked into TKMaxx I wasn’t thinking of buying a handbag at all, but when I saw this colour I just walked to the cashier straight away!!  I’ve always bought black or brown handbags, so this is my very first PINK handbag! Yay!

P1120662 copy

Inside is like this.  You can’t really see in this photo, but I’m using a Tintamar VIP Handbag Organiser inside my handbag 🙂  I bought this handbag organiser ages ago, but it’s still very strong and useful 🙂

P1120666

Yes, I love Pink & Red 🙂  The coin purse was a gift from my friend’s mum, and the key wallet was a gift from my sister.

P1120667

By the way, I’ve been trying to make some new things, and I’d like to show you one of them 🙂

Have you seen this post on Ray’s blog “My Life All in One Place“?  When I first saw the photo I coudn’t figure out what those lovely charms were made of!  Then I asked Ray, and his answer was that he used the printable shrink plastic!!  Oh, I LOVED shrink plastic when I was a kid, and was soooo excited to know that now there is printable shrink plastic!!

So I ordered myself a pack of some printable shrink plastic and was waiting until I had some spare time to make some charms for my Filofax!

So here is what I made.  First, I cut an A4 sheet of plastic into 4 pieces as that was how much I needed to use.  Then I printed out my Kokeshi character.  Sorry, all of the photos were taken under my desk lamp, so they are orange-ish.

P1120676

When it came out of the printer I thought the colour appeared to be a bit faded, but I’m not quite sure if it was because of my printer’s settings or that was just the way it was.

Anyway, I cut them out and made holes.

P1120677

Then I baked them in the oven for 2 minutes.

Ta-Daaaa!  I put a ball-chain I already had.

P1120680

I forgot to take a picture of the back of it, but I printed out some pink polka dots on the back as it’s printable on both sides.

P1120682

I actually wanted to hang it from the top, but the ball-chain is too short.

P1120683

So I ordered some longer ball-chains, and once they arrive here I’ll put some photos up 🙂

P11206882

Thanks for reading!

❤Cute Kokeshi Doll See-Thru Page Marker❤

<<INFORMATION>>

Address refills are now up on my Etsy shop!

They are for the POCKET size, but I’m planning on making them for the PERSONAL size as well 🙂

—☆—☆—☆—☆—☆—☆—☆—☆—☆—☆—☆—

Last night, I was thinking about making some page markers but I couldn’t come up with the designs I really like…
So I decided to make one with the idea which I came up with long ago to help me refresh my thoughts!

Here is the “See-thru divider” which I made a while back, and I was going to make something similar but a cuter version of it 🙂

Filofax Malden Vintage Pink 4 640x480
I did some designing on Photoshop based on my rough sketches…

P1120545 copy
Then I printed it out and cut out the parts I didn’t need.  It was a bit of a hassle to cut out the middle part, but I managed it somehow.

P1120543
Then I laminated it with a laminator, but it’s not 100% flat, can you see?

P1120546 copy
When I use my laminator it always becomes ever so slightly uneven, so I always use a clothes iron afterwards to make it smooth and flat.

P1120548 copy
And here is the finished sample of the “See-Thru Page Marker”!

P1120551
To be honest, the original version of the See-Thru divider (the first photo) was more practical as you can see both pages perfectly when the divider is in between.  But this one is a lot cuter 🙂

New Pocket Finsbury and Colourful Monthly Calendar :)

<<INFORMATION>>
A5 dividers are now available at Japan Corner 🙂

A5 top image etsy

I’ve been wanting to design more refills, stickers, Today markers…etc., but I just don’t have enough time…!   I guess I can do that after Christmas 🙂  I’ve also been wanting to make some cute week-to-view refills, but I’m short on time at the moment so I just made these simple ones for now.

P1120254 copy

They are just simple refills, but they’ve got more space compared to Filofax week on two pages.

By the way, I like my new Finsbury.  The very first Filofax I bought was Pocket Finsbury Aqua, but I damaged the front cover and tried to fix it but I made it even worse… 😦  So I bought a Pocket Malden, and I liked it, but I couldn’t forget about the Finsbury..!  I just like its stiff leather and squareness.

The colour is Antique Rose, and it’s grayish pink.  I love pink, but I’m so clumsy, so this grayish pink is perfect for me as any damage to it won’t be so obvious 🙂

P1120298 copy

P1120487 copy

These are the monthly calendar pages for November.

P1120485 copy

They are quite colourful…maybe too colourful!?

P1120486 copy

I hope I can show you some new refills/stickers/today markers sometime soon!
